Canadian Senate Committee Chair Commends Bangladesh's Development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Leadership

The Chair of the Senate's Human Rights Committee in Canada's Parliament, Senator Salma Ataullahjan, has praised Bangladesh's progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During a meeting with Bangladesh's Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Hasan Mahmud, in Toronto on Friday, the Senator expressed her admiration for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership.

Senator Ataullahjan mentioned Bangladesh's achievements in socio-economic development, particularly in empowering women, controlling population growth, combating extremism and terrorism, and fostering communal harmony under Sheikh Hasina's leadership.

She also commended Bangladesh's role in providing shelter to nearly 1.3 million Rohingya refugees and urged for a permanent solution to their crisis through repatriation to Myanmar.

During the meeting, Minister Hasan Mahmud discussed the potential enhancement of bilateral trade and emphasized the importance of the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPPA) between the two countries.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the robust economic ties between Canada and Bangladesh and emphasized the signing of the FIPPA as a priority to further strengthen investment relations.

Bangladesh's High Commissioner to Canada, Khalilur Rahman, was also present at the meetings held in Canada.
